You might want to differ cause from effect.
Bad governance of physical and social resources has lead us down the path of pandemics, dislocation of people and climate change. The latter is the least of the problems as we will have finished off all the fossil fuels in the coming decades.
And whether or not, it can be considered overpopulation is purely a function of it.
Good governance namely does not lead to overpopulation.
So hard logic asks for either a governance system intelligent enough to handle the current numbers (which the system we have now in place clearly does not) or if we are unable to change our system nor the numbers, then we must accept a serious downgrading of our quality of life.
If this I am quite aware :) It's the reason that since I am 20 (am now 50) have been actively looking for a much smarter system. I have been using sociocracy the last 20 years, I have stopped voting (I will no longer give the current system my legitimisation) and would give my consent today to be governed by https://www.ecogood.org/
But I am also hedging the fact that this transformation will not all happen in time. So, bracing for impact and hope my kid can somehow weather out the (social and economic) storm that is inevitably coming our way.
