Why should the elders be less interested? I would argue the opposite. They have a powerful vested interest in making sure their changing world is running smoothly.

Many of the 60+ people I know are nothing like the generation before them. They are physically still very fit, socially active and many like to continue to contribute to society. Only at a slower pace, 2 days per week instead of 5 and 4-6 hours a day instead of 8.

Having a sense of purpose is one of Machteld Huber's key indicators. She refers to the blue zones as examples of how to live fulfilling, long and healthy lives. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_zone

And we need surprisingly little energy* to run that level of happiness. https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ecs2.3978

It's all about getting our priorities right and re-aligning our system to it. Politics has never led, it simply follows what has been initiated bottom up and turned out to be successful. So expect the rising number of intentional communities to lead the way. Communities like > https://www.ecodorpboekel.nl/ The future is always right in front of us. The art is to be able to see it.
