"What's your claim to know Europe and its interests as well as I do?" Flashing of credentials is reserved for rhetoric, a total waste of time. I strongly suggest you judge the book by its contents. Most complex issues simply don't have a right or wrong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbm72_fBgc0
Hence the necessity for a balanced dialogue between conflicting insights.
I am in no position to judge the Asian view on NATO's encroachment with 800+ US military bases in their region. But as a human, I wonder why any nation would want so many of their soldiers with deadly weapons so far away from home. All weapons are by design meant to harm people. (read https://scheerpost.com/2023/02/03/caitlin-johnstone-us-surrounds-china-with-war-machinery-while-freaking-out-about-balloons/ )
And I can read: "Amid growing anger, tens of thousands of anti-US base protesters are expected to stage their largest rally in 20 years." https://www.aljazeera.com/features/2016/6/17/thousands-to-call-for-us-troops-exit-from-okinawa I suggest watching John Pilger's documentary "The Coming War on China" (was on Netflix) where the voice of these protesters can be heard. Watch it and judge for yourself.
As for legitimate elections .... . A fact is that the Maidan uprising was US-supported and removed the democratically elected pro-Russian government of Viktor Yanukovych. So much for US support of real democracy.
On this the US has quite a track record. " In my lifetime, the United States has overthrown or attempted to overthrow more than 50 governments, mostly democracies. It has interfered in democratic elections in 30 countries. It has dropped bombs on the people of 30 countries, most of them poor and defenceless. It has attempted to murder the leaders of 50 countries. It has fought to suppress liberation movements in 20 countries." > https://scheerpost.com/2022/09/09/john-pilger-silencing-the-lambs-how-propaganda-works/ And no Russian evil doesn't absolve US evil. Only love and peace can.
As for "proxy war" I suggest you read the 2019 RAND report, or should I say script. As everything they suggested well before the war the US do has "miraculously" been effected. Russia was indeed "baited to overextend herself". Their words not mine. But lableing it doesn't sove anything. Fact is that the US has done nothing to promote peace. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/why-peace-talks-but-no-peace/ That makes the US role in this situation a liablity for all of humanity. So I truly hope that Cornel West or Robert F. Kennedy Jr. get elected. Or this topic, even Vivek Ramaswamy/Donald Trump.
Let’s leave it to that.
