Having participated in hackathons/pitches both in the Netherlands (Eindhoven) and in Sweden (Stockholm) and talking to the VC's, it is very much (be it subjective but first hand) the experience I had. They seemed all to go for easy web-based, low-risk, quick turn-over app-based innovations. Real-world physical innovations don't enter their scope.
