Indeed. The impact on the “conquered” societies was with very long lasting negative effectes on them.

Personally I’d love to see this study done on the 2000 year of Roman rule.

My quick guess is that during this 80 generation rule they consumed arround 200 to 400 mln!!! slaves. Incredible numbers for an era with relative small cities and tiny settlements. The impact must have been tremendous and felt for hunderds of years.

Understanding this ought to change our view and narrative on the “greatness” of Rome.
