I disagree. Supply chains are the first that are going to collapse due to their hyper optimization and thus zero resilience to even minor disruptions. (look up fragility)
So where do you think the first serious shortages will appear? That is where the violence will start and the smartest thing you can do to protect your family is to put as much distance between yourself and these epicentres of violence.
That is, until society, at last, decides to start thinking intelligently and act effectively. We all know that stable doors are only locked AFTER the horses have bolted.
Prepping is all about dealing with this human fact and not, as you suggest, living off-grid forever. Many left the violence of NY in the '70s only to come back two decades later when it had become much safer.
Prepping is about understanding human history and acting wisely upon it. Which, unfortunately, cannot be said about governments.
