“hegemony is transferred” & “inevitable” — in short a trade war that can never be won:)

Will this not also have a big influence on the US spending power in a globalized economy? Is that why you to refer to the need of more self-reliance for the shrinking power of the West? Could that sub-consciously perhaps be a driver behind Trumps actions to try and bring back home old industries? To become more self-reliant to prepare for the transfer?

It does make quite clear why James Dyson moved to Singapore.

At least the cards are on the table: more efficiency (AI & robotics), the advantage of continental geography and acces to large markets and materials. For Europe this would mean more focus on the development of our own continent (to include Russia and Turkey) and amelioration of our ties with the large African market next door. A challenge but also very interesting indeed.

I share your hope for the transition towards a more benign and sustainable world.

As an engineer, there is one point I would like to add — we do need Asia and the rest of the world and visa versa. Amongst those billions are millions of extremely intelligent people. Not only to help make our live here on earth safer, fairer and more agreable…but we only have a few thousand years to, one day, have to leave this beautiful rock…2019’s first photograph of a black hole is I think an extremely important turning point in our human history. We know for sure that our fates are inter locked. I just hope we use our time wisely.
