Dignity, honour, and nobless are values linked to the fullness of personality, realized by careful cultivation of self-responsibility. These are the foundations upon which a solid society can be carried. Driven by agon, the Greek (and later Roman) will to improve oneself to a higher order.
Nietzsche, Scheler and others point to the reversal of this drive under Christianity. Fueled by an oppressive sense of inferiority the values were inversed (recognise the weaponisation of victimhood), opening the door to the value delusion of ressentiment.
Which I think, gives us a pretty useful assessment of our current state. Also, the realisation that without any major shift in the mental framework used, duplicity will remain the norm in most of Western society.
