Applying doesn't mean you have to accept them as members. Especially if your foundational mandate is to keep your current members safe. US-run NATO has done the exact opposite, moving time and again more eastwards and now as a result we have a full-fledged war on our hands on our continent.

So it's clear to a growing number of Europeans that NATO is part of the problem. That Europe should get the hell out of it before the NATO US puppets drag us all down in their spiral of death and destruction for MIC profit. The thing NATO has become is nothing short of the embodiment of pure evil. I feel so sorry for the Ukrainians that they trust the West. Putin could have told them the truth about us West and saved them hundreds of thousands of unnecessary painful deaths and millions in misery and/or exile.

As for its US master we can be short:
