1. In addition to @Axel Maeyens's point about understanding: if all you see is the complexity that means you are looking at it from the wrong level. As one of my former generative design students put it: a complex expression of a simple thought (in his case a couple of uncomplicated interacting rule sets.)

2. Thinking costs a lot of computational energy. That is why human psychology is fiddled with heuristics. Which then are embedded in and guide our behaviour. As we all know nothing is harder to change than this. That's why we need crisis and dramatic events to evolve as a society. To fail forward, often at the price of change or die.
